Classroom Licensing - Get Started Toward Your Ohio Insurance License
Step 1
Register for Hondros College Career Start Package in person, online at www.hondros.edu or by calling 1.888.HONDROS.
Included in Career Start Package: Pre-licensing Classroom Course, Textbook, Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook, CompuCram® Exam Prep Software.
Any applicant applying for variable life-variable annuity line of authority is registered with the financial industry regulatory authority (FINRA) as a registered representative after having passed at least one of the following examinations administered by FINRA: The Series 6, Series 7, Series 63 or Series 66 examination.

Step 2
Register for the State Exam - Prometric recommends registering and scheduling your exam online:
- Go to www.prometric.com
- Go to the orange box that says "For Test Takers"
- Choose "Ohio"
- Under the heading "Insurance," click "Insurance license exams"
- To get started and schedule your test, click "Start"
- Then you will create an account

Step 3
Complete your Career Start Package Licensing Class and Crammer™ textbook. Practice for your exam with the CompuCram® Exam Prep Software.
Step 4
Complete the NAIC Producer Application/Background Check - Visit www.fastfingerprints.com to schedule your background check.
NAIC Uniform Producer Application - This Form is in the Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook or can be filled out online at www.insurance.ohio.gov/agent/pages/beappinst.aspx and turned in at the testing center. All testing centers will have a computer available for submission of the producer application. Hondros College printing and filling out the Producer Application prior to testing to ensure that the application is complete and correct. Incomplete or partially completed applications will delay the department in issuing your license.
Background Check - As of 2011, the Department of Insurance (DOI) requires both a federal and state background check for new licensees. These checks will NOT be available at the testing centers. However, each Hondros College location has a FastFingerprints station at the school. The cost is $70 and is payable by credit or debit card. This background check must be submitted to the state to issue a license. Processing will typically take 48 hours.
Step 5
Take and pass the exam at one of the testing locations.
License Issuance — The State of Ohio anticipates licenses will be issued after Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) reviews them within 7-10 business days.
Self-Study Licensing - Get Started on Your Ohio Insurance License
Step 1
Register for Hondros College Self-Study K.I.T. (Key Insurance Topics): in person, online at www.hondros.edu or call 1-888-HONDROS. Included in the K.I.T. are our online pre-licensing course, textbook, CompuCram exam prep software, Ohio Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook and proctored exam session.
Proctored exams can be taken at all Hondros College between 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. every weekday.

Take Online Course, review CompuCram® CD, schedule and attend Hondros College Proctored Exam, receive certificates and prepare for the state exam. For additional exam preparation, purchase and attend the 2 day pre-licensing review course (optional).
